#STOP! #DIAPERMESS #SAVERIVERWIGWA #SAVELAKEVICTORIA

 Today 13 ecological justice crusaders from 5 justice centres lead by Nyalenda Social and Health Justice Centre Nyalenda B, others were Kisumu Peace and Justice Centre, Chiga Social Justice Centre, Katuoro Social Justice Centre and Mamboleo Information and Social Justice Centre carried community sensitization on disposal of diapers which have become a public nuisance.From clogging the drainage systems, choking River Wigwa and Lake Victoria.We collected 3,000 used #DIAPERS and also identified 4 worst brand names in the #Diapermess  as follows #PAMPERS #SOFTCARE #MOLFLIX #NIPNAP in the #Dampster 001in Nyalenda B

We also want to bring to the attention of the regulatory authorities and the service providers to do their thing as mandated from collection by the City Management Board to National Environmental Management Authority to rein in on manufactures as part of the bargain on polluter pay principle where they have responsibility in environmental control

It is also very sad that Waste collection in the informal settlement has no proper plan as most members of the community including mothers who dispose the diapers in any available space have no information on where to place used diapers for collection.

There is need for;

·         Identification of collection space/point,

·         Increased penetration by the vehicle/tractor

·         Information on collection schedule

·         Manufacturer provide bags

·         CSR and support for community groups undertaking climate change activities

·         Mechanisms for community-based monitoring

·         Meaningful involvement of community in planning design and implementation

·         Increased ecological literacy at household level

Everyone counts let’s leave no one behind
