INVITATION TO THE 2016 CANDLE LIGHT MEMORIALON SATURDAY 28TH OF MAY 2016 AT MATHEW ONDIEK PRIMARY SCHOOL NEXT TO LUMUMBA HEALTH CENTRE STARTING AT 8;30 AM AND ENDING AT 3.00 PM ,KISUMU CITY ,KISUMU COUNTY

The Grassroots Network, which is coalition of TB and HIV organizations implementing in Kisumu County is planning to commemorate the candlelight memorial. The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial is one of the world’s oldest and largest grassroots mobilization campaigns for HIV awareness. The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial takes place every third Sunday in May. It is coordinated at the global level by the Global Network of People living with HIV (GNP+). CLM is part of social mobilization strategy to empower people living with HIV in all their diversity to stand up for their right to live a life free of stigma and discrimination. Only when involving people living with HIV can resources be used efficiently to provide a sustainable HIV response for universal access to quality health and social services. IACM brings together various interest groups and likeminded organizations to empower women, children, key population and youths among others in a community. While for some people HIV has become a chronic disease, many others lack access to treatment and experience HIV-related stigma, discrimination and human rights violations on a daily basis. On Sunday 15th of May 2016 is the 33rd International AIDS Candlelight Memorial. Join organizations worldwide to raise HIV awareness and remember the friends and family we lost to AIDS with this year’s theme “Engage, Educate, Empower”. FOR THE KISUMU COMMUNITY WE INTEND TO HOLD OUR MEMORIAL ON SATURDAY 28TH OF MAY 2016 AT MATHEW ONDIEK PRIMARY SCHOOL IN KISUMU,COUNTY We intend to mobilize the community to come out, meaningfully participate, get tested, engage decision makers at all levels on how we can reduce new infections, deaths from HIV and TB and all forms of discrimination. Bear in mind that our county is among the top three in terms of HIV prevalence in Kenya, 1 out of 5 people living with HIV are killed by TB, TB is the no 1 killer of people living with HIV, Kisumu county has high incidents of TB among people living with HIV (co infected) and we are no 15 among countries with high TB burden. We therefore take this opportunity to invite you’ to our memorial in Kisumu City Hoping for a positive response.
